Permanent Exhibition

The main objective of the Museum’s permanent exhibition is to provide a well-organised and coherent overview of the key facets of the history of the railway system. The museum currently offers an exhibition that proposes different themed itineraries related to all three types of railway traction –steam, electric and diesel–, track infrastructure and installations, rail traffic control, the importance of timekeeping in the railway world, and a display of working scale model railways.

With the three traditional purposes of a museum preserve, study and disseminate as its frame of reference, the Railway Museum team invite you to discover what these objects, contraptions and vehicles were like and how they worked by exploring the different areas of the museum: the Central Hall (Nave Central), with locomotives, wagons and various smaller exhibits spread along the length of the platforms; the Infrastructure Room (Sala de Infraestructura), which covers the basic features of railway construction and its elements; The Algodor Interlocking, located on the outer tracks, which includes the original lever frame and signal bridge; the Clock Room (Sala de Relojes), with its collection of old station clocks; and finally, the Model Railway Room (Sala de Modelismo), with its working miniature railway display.
